The Future of Delivery Vehicles

The Future of Delivery Vehicles

Climate change is one of the biggest problems the world is facing right now, so there’s a huge amount of interest in reducing harmful vehicle emissions. And here at GenRev, we’ve been wondering about the impact this is going to have on the future of delivery vehicles.

Regular readers will know this is a subject very close to our hearts. In a previous blog post, we’ve already taken a look at sustainable warehousing solutions. And we recommend highlighting your green credentials as a great way of enhancing brand reputation.

Hydrogen fuel cells and battery power
London already has a fleet of more than 500 electric buses, and earlier this year, these were joined by 20 brand-new double-deckers fitted with hydrogen fuel cells. This move is predicted to reduce harmful emissions in the capital, which now boasts one of the largest ‘green’ fleets in all of Western Europe. We predict this type of fuel cell will be used more and more by delivery vehicles in future years to come.

Electric vehicles, or EVs, have been around for a while now, but they still require heavy and expensive batteries, which can take several hours to reach full charge. But now a Californian manufacturer has come up with a completely new type of battery, which uses a combination of commercial powdered graphite with silicon nanowires. This has led to faster charging times, improved vehicle range and reduced costs, making it a win-win for future users.

Closer to home, two UK companies have joined forces to develop a new type of lithium-carbon battery, which enables an EV to be recharged in the same time that it takes to fill a tank with petrol or diesel. The batteries remain stable at high temperatures too, meaning there’s no need for complex battery management systems or bulky external cooling units, so they can even be used for powering mopeds. The fully recyclable batteries have a much greater lifespan than traditional batteries, and don’t require the use any rare metals.

A cleaner, greener delivery service
Here at GenRev we’re keeping a close watch on all the latest developments in vehicle technology. We’re particularly interested in EVs, and as soon as they become a viable solution for our business model, we’ll be making the switch.

We’re always on the lookout for ways to minimise our impact on the planet, which is why we’re so proud of our In Boot deliveries, and our In Night distribution service. By using trunking routes and delivering parts and packages through the night, we avoid traffic jams and delays, so our service is cost-effective, efficient and less harmful to the planet.

Our GenRev smart delivery services help you to reduce your business carbon footprint. We get your parts and other items to your field engineers or sales reps on time at less busy times of the day. We continually strive to deliver planet-conscious solutions.
